The Charles N. Shepardson Agricultural Student Leadership Award is presented to a College of Agricultural Science senior who has demonstrated outstanding leadership ability during his/her undergraduate career and who has maintained a 3.00 GPA. The student’s leadership qualities should be evident for responsible positions help through employment, activities, and organizations related to agriculture and agricultural sciences. Send reference letters from at least two references who can provide information about your role as a leader at the University.
For a number of years, the winner of the Shepardson Student Leadership Award has been the student speaker at our Spring Commencement ceremony. Should the winner of the award wish to continue that tradition he/she will need to work with the college’s director of communications in both preparation and delivery of the speech. Commencement is a highly-visible, well-attended event, so those nominated for the award should have some comfort level in speaking to large audiences. The winner may choose to decline this speaking role if he/she does not want to give the speech but speaking ability should be a consideration for this award.
The award will be presented at the College of Agricultural Sciences Recognition Reception, to be held TBD. The recipient will receive a monetary award and a plaque. The recipient’s name will also be engraved in a permanent plaque located in the Shepardson Building.
